Ask a serious bartender in Berlin or Stockholm what tonic they stock, and Thomas Henry comes up reliably. The brand has won its following through the on-trade rather than consumer marketing — a meaningful endorsement, because bartenders are mercilessly practical about what they reach for behind the bar.
The tonic is drier than most of its peers, with a quinine expression that feels considered and deliberate. The carbonation is particularly impressive — very fine bubbles that create a silky mouthfeel and maintain their persistence in the glass longer than most competitors. Pour this over ice and it stays alive for the full duration of the drink.
It pairs well with a wide range of gin styles, but particularly shines with London Drys that have a drier, more austere profile — Sipsmith, Portobello Road, or Hayman's all find an excellent foil here. An 8.4 that could easily have been higher with wider distribution.
